"The European Union is interested in effective anticorruption legislation in Ukraine," First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Parubii said at a Monday meeting of the workgroup for improvement of the legislation in pursuance of the Visa Liberalisation Action Plan for Ukraine.

According to the politician, a number of laws touching this issue were not approved at the session hall of the Parliament in absence of the political will.

Parubii expressed confidence that the "adoption of the visa-free laws is our responsibility to the Ukrainian society, to every citizen of Ukraine. This responsibility will have to make the deputies show fruitful voting." "All these draft laws have been discussed in the committees, thus, it would be logical to pay back to the Ukrainians, who took part in the Euromaidan to win the right of Ukraine to be in the European Union," Parubii said.

The participants in the meeting of the workgroup were people's deputies of Ukraine, representatives of the Presidential Administration, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, representatives of the public sector. The participants in the meeting analyzed the prepared draft laws.

"There are four key draft laws, which touch the anticorruption set of issues. We also have other debts, to the society, in particular, the duty to eliminate discrimination, however, all the obligations Ukraine took within the positive decision of the EU touched those four draft laws," the politician said. Parubii specified that those four draft laws touch "improvement of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, amendments to the National Agency of Ukraine for Tracing and Management of Proceeds from Corruption and Other Offenses, amendments to special confiscation, and e-declaration."

Commenting on the results of the workgroup meeting, Parubii expressed confidence that anticorruption package of draft laws should be considered at the beginning of the plenary meeting, as "the discussion of the Government's report may take eternity." At the same time, asked if the Government's report could be considered the next day, Parubii said: "The report of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will be considered in compliance with the effective legislation. The Government had never doubted the necessity for the report, and had preliminarily submitted it for consideration in the committees. Of course, the report will be heard tomorrow as it was expected."
